Bill and I love Romanesque art.
Behold the Madonna Sedes Sapientiae (Seat of Wisdom)! She still has her original paint (polychromy).
The inscription at the base of the sculpture says that Presbyter Martinus carved this in January 1199.
According to the Bode guidebook the lions supporting the Madonna's feet "are an allusion to the lions surrounding the throne of Solomon, the 'seat of wisdom'".
