Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli

Back in June, Bill and I went to a fun Morandi Exhibition.
Afterwards we crossed the piazza to a church we didn't know: Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli.
The facade promised greatness within.
This golden altar is the obvious greatness here.
Nothing says "Baroque" like a sunburst pattern.
Reconfirming the atheism of atheists and delighting the faithful at the same time.
A design from the tile floor in front of the altar. One more heraldic design for my collection.
Baroque angels support the altarpiece in one of the chapels.
Bewitching glance from the angel.
Bill and I love this wooden confessional.
Not sure what this is. Maybe you can tell me. I should have taken a picture from the side.
"Get there faster and without fatigue. Fly eagle power!"
Small medieval sanctuary off the main body of the church. Roman churches are full of gems like this.
Serene ironwork promises a courtyard of light and air.

  1. This church is celebrating end of a plague, or has an icon preventing one? Some connection which seems even more relevant these years.
    That glory is so huge.
