Lunch by the Cannaregio Canal

Several weeks ago, Julia, a Roman friend, recommended a traditional Venetian restaurant near our apartment in the Cannaregio neighbourhood, Trattoria dalla Marisa.
The trattoria is so near where we are staying in Venice that we had already passed it many times.
It was always busy, both by day and by night.
Friday morning we dropped by to make a reservation for Saturday lunch and when we arrived this charming waiter took us under wing.
This was lucky for us because the trattoria was hopping and those who didn't have reservations didn't get seated. The staff certainly had their hands full!
But once we were seated on the canal's edge we knew why. Our inexpensive lunch began with a hearty pasta with meat sauce, sparkling water and red wine.
We had filled up on the yummy pasta so we shared our vegetable dishes (contorini) of articoke hearts and peas
and split a huge, delicious, seared pork chop.
I think John's expression says just how much we enjoyed our meal. Thank you for your recommendation, Julia, and for your hospitality Trattoria della Marisa!
