Anish Kapoor at Monumenta

For the last four years, the Grand Palais, has been home to a show called Monumenta. Every year they invite one contemporary artist to create one work of art to fill the huge nave of the exhibition hall.

This morning, Bill and I, saw this year's artwork, called Leviathan, by British artist Anish Kapoor.

Kapoor has filled all three corners of the hall with one monumental, inflated sculpture.

Walking around and underneath Leviathan was awe inspiring.

Now let's go inside.

Nothing could have prepared us for the interior of the glowing, red central pod, directly across from the entrance.

Here is a view of one of the side pods.

As the sun came out, shadows of  the steel and glass structure of the exhibition hall etched themselves across the membrane of the sculpture.

There was something primordial about the changing light in that vast curving interior. Unforgettable! Until June 23rd.
