Personal Film Festival

Inspired by reading Dolce Vita Confidential, a book about Italy's postwar movie and fashion boom, Bill and I decided to look at a bunch of Fellini's early movies. We enjoyed seeing the Fellinis so much a second time through that we moved on to a half dozen Antonionis.
It was so interesting to look at a director's body of work that we moved on to Visconti. I had paused La Terra Trema for a quick trip to the kitchen and thought I had better take a picture.
Antonio Arcidiacono in Visonti's La Terra Trema, 1948.
Steve Cochran in Antonioni's Il Grido (The Cry), 1957. If you are a collector you can collect anything. I suddenly wanted a frame or two from every movie we watched.
Montgomery Cliff and Jennifer Jones in de Sica's Stazione Centrale, 1953.
Adriano Rimoldi and  Isa Pola in De Sica's The Children Are Watching Us, 1944.
Fabio Testi in De Sica's The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, 1970.
Dominique Sanda in The Garden of the Finzi Continis.
Jean-Louis Trintignant and Stefania Sandrelli in Bertolucci's The Conformist, 1970.
Trintignant and Dominique Sanda in The Conformist, 1970.
While searching the library's catalogue for movies we became curious about Jean-Pierre Melville. Here is Cathy Rosier in Melville's Le Samuraï, 1967.
Alain Delon in Le Samuraï
Jean-Paul Belmondo in Melville's Léon Morin, Prêtre, 1961.
Silvan Corsini in Pier Paolo Pasolini's Mama Roma, 1962.
We watched Mama Roma last night. Sorry to leave you with Anna Mangiani's utter desolation. But we are off to Italy tomorrow so will have to continue this series when we get back.
Ha! I just said that and here is La Dolce Vita (1960) on TV. Marcello Mastroianni has his vision of an angel (Valeria Ciangottini).
