Richard Serra at Gagosian

John and I were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked the new steel sculptures by Richard Serra at Gagosian in Chelsea. The huge gallery on West 24th Street easily accommodates the three new works -- all created in 2015.
The monumental steel slabs of Every Which Way were strangely welcoming.
We enjoyed walking amongst them.
We were impressed by the single flat piece of steel that constitutes Silence (For John Cage).
It really does radiate silence.
Through -- a work made from three monumental rusting horizontal slabs -- entices the viewer to walk between and around them.
The rusting gouges on its sides reminded us of the textures of the coloured walls of Rome.

  1. Agreed, Jeffrey. This 76 year old artist is going from strength to strength.

  2. It's amazing how well those giant sheets of metal balance. Minimalism at its best.
