Sunday Bird Market

After visiting Sainte Chapelle on the Île de la Cité the last Sunday of our stay in Paris, Bill and I visited the bird market on the island. Bill caught this portrait of one of the sellers.
The birds certainly were beautiful in their tiny cages.
Hard to imagine them not going a bit stir-crazy, though, having only each other to talk to.
These fluffy, feathered friends reminded Bill of Big Bird. What ARE they?
If you click on this picture you can see the birds move.

  1. it might be a 'Silkie' which is a kind of chicken. I remembered seeing one in a book my sister had. I thought they were pretty amazing looking.

By the way, we just replaced the last picture in this post with an animated gif file. Click on it and you can see the birds move -- our first little animation!

  4. Hey, rarecat!
I took three pictures. I've been trying to figure out how to make an animated gif file for the past week. A friend tonight told me I could use photoshop and it worked.
I had been having difficulty trying to use a free, open source download called Gimp -- but now I think I would be able to do it in Gimp as well. So if you don't have photoshop, I could show you. Glad you liked it!

  6. Hey, Beached Owl -- great to hear from you! We hope the summer is being kind to you. How's Diana? Now you'll have some time to get to know her better. The Tomatoes are plump and happy. --your, Beach Towel
