La Montecarlo Pizzeria

After a morning visting Vatican City, John and I walked back into the Centro Storico, along Via Guilia and walked north up to a quiet side street to Vicolo Savelli 12, just north of the Via Vittorio Emmanuele II. It was just after noon and we got a seat easily and started with tasty stuffed zucchini flowers before ordering the restaurants classic, thin crusted pizza.
John chose the classic Margherita (just mozzarella and tomato sauce) and Bill chose the Al Verdure (with mozzarella, eggplant, zucchini and roasted peppers) just to see what it would be like. Both were divine although in the future we'll stick with the simple Margherita. It really needs no embellishment!
Washed down with a 1/2 liter of white house wine and a bottle of fizzy mineral water it made a divine lunch. The variety of toppings is endless, so be experimental, but whichever pizza you order, we bet you'll say that it was the best pizza you had in the Eternal City!
